History
The site originated as a monastery, functioning intermittently until the Bolsheviks closed it in 1923 following the Soviet Union’s establishment. From 1935, it served as a state government residence under successive Soviet and independent Ukrainian administrations.
In 2007, during the final weeks of Yanukovych’s tenure as Prime Minister, the property was privatized—an action later alleged as illegal, with no reported payment to the state. After his election as President in 2010, Yanukovych continued to occupy the estate, claiming a lease of one hectare cost ₴314 monthly. The State Administration of Affairs rented space there in 2012 for official receptions. When Yanukovych fled Ukraine on 21 February 2014 during the Revolution of Dignity, the residence returned to state control.
