History
The settlement developed primarily in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when wealthy Florentine families built summer villas and cottages along the coast. Villa Bondi, constructed in 1909 by Florentine entrepreneur Angelo Bondi, exemplifies this period of expansion. Bondi owned the Manifattura di Signa, a terracotta and decorative works producer whose artisanal products still ornament the villa today.
