History
The museum was established in 1911 as the Municipal Museum of History and Art (Museo Civico di Storia e d’Arte), reflecting Koper’s Venetian heritage and multilingual past. In 1954 it relocated to the Belgramoni Tacco Palace, vastly expanding its exhibition capacity. At its centenary in 2011, the museum reopened with a new permanent exhibition titled Between the Serenissima, Napoleon and the Habsburgs, marking the occasion by strengthening its collections and scholarly focus on the region’s three dominant powers.
