The institution’s extensive collection of Jewish ritual objects was assembled by Rabbi Moses Rosen (1912–1994), Chief Rabbi of Romanian Jewry, reflecting decades of cultural preservation.

The synagogue’s sacred space now functions as a museum. Visitors encounter an enormous collection of books written, published, and translated by Romanian Jews; a serious historical archive; paintings by and of Romanian Jews—works of calibre comparable to those in the National Museum of Art. Displays include memorabilia from Jewish theaters, including the State Jewish Theater, and a medium-sized exhibition on Zionism. Two side rooms address the Holocaust: one presents historical documentation, the other serves as memorial space.

Unlike some European Jewish museums focused on diaspora and emigration, this institution examines the continuing presence and contribution of Jews to Romanian culture.
