Il gusto ha un nome Anthony Marra Restaurant

Family restaurant · Palagiano, Taranto · Puglia
Il gusto ha un nome — Anthony Marra, Palagiano

A twenty-cover family restaurant on the Ionian plain of the province of Taranto, named after the chef who runs it. It reached a national audience in March 2015, as one of the four family-run restaurants of the Puglia episode of 4 Ristoranti. This card has been corrected: for years it was filed under Castellana Grotte, in the province of Bari, thirty-five kilometres away and in another province. The restaurant is in Palagiano, as the archive text said all along.

Overview

Palagiano lies on the coastal plain between Taranto and the first rise of the Murge, in the belt of irrigated orchards that runs along the Ionian arc. The restaurant stood away from the historic centre, on via Enrico Fermi, and was a small house: about twenty covers, a plainly classical dining room and a menu its own chef described as ambitious.

History

Anthony Marra gave the restaurant his own name, and it was under that name that it took part in the fourth episode of the first season of 4 Ristoranti, broadcast on Sky Uno on 25 March 2015 and given over to the best family-run restaurant in Puglia. The other three were the Torre di Angelucco at Martina Franca, in the same province, the Locanda del fu Giovanni in the Salento and La Farmacia dei Sani at Ruffano, in the province of Lecce, which the Cultural Heritage Online archive entry records as the winner. The programme is 4 Ristoranti, in which the chef Alessandro Borghese has four restaurants of the same kind judge one another on premises, menu, service and bill before he casts the deciding vote.

Current restaurant listings mark the business as closed. No announcement or date has been found, so this card records the fact without dressing it up.

What you see

A small dining room of about twenty covers with classical fittings, on a street of the modern part of Palagiano rather than in the old centre.
