History
The church was constructed in 1870–71 to designs by architect Ewan Christian, a prolific Victorian church architect. It was licensed for worship on 18 October 1871. Christian’s original plans included an apsidal chapel and vestry at the southeast corner, neither of which were executed.
In 1910–11, Chester architect John Douglas undertook a significant expansion, adding a chancel of notably simpler design than the original structure. The church was consecrated on 25 April 1911, formally completing its second phase of development.

The original 1870s church features a nave with a south aisle, articulated by lancet windows typical of Victorian Gothic Revival taste. The 1910s chancel, designed by Douglas, adopts a more austere aesthetic—a deliberate shift toward Edwardian simplicity that contrasts with Christian’s more ornamental approach.
The unrealized elements—the southeast chapel and vestry—hint at Christian’s grander ambitions for the site. The building’s Grade II listing recognizes its architectural and historical interest within the Welsh Anglican tradition.
