History
Built in 1908, Hohenhof was commissioned by Karl Ernst Osthaus, a wealthy industrialist and influential arts patron. Osthaus lived here with his family until his death in 1921. His children subsequently sold the estate to the city of Hagen on condition that its original character be preserved.
Between the early 1920s and late 1970s, the building underwent several changes in use and function. Comprehensive renovation followed, transforming it into the museum it remains today.
