History
Milanese entrepreneur Gaetano Ceschina founded the hotel in 1929 during Italy’s economic expansion. During Benito Mussolini’s seaside retreats to Riccione, the Grand Hotel hosted foreign dignitaries and served as an unofficial state residence. The Torre 900 tower, designed by Renato Camus in 1934, functioned as an operational control and security centre for Mussolini’s private secretariat.
After the Second World War, the hotel became a symbol of Riccione’s emergence as an upmarket destination, hosting extravagant social events throughout the postwar decades. Financial troubles emerged in the twenty-first century: the hotel closed in 2010 following an inheritance dispute, partially reopened in July 2023, and saw its management company declared bankrupt two months later.
