History
Construction ran from 1896 to 1900, originally serving as an auxiliary to the parish church of All Saints. The parish of St. Peter and Paul was formally established in 1908, with Józef Jagło appointed as its first parish priest.
The building endured significant upheaval during the twentieth century. Its bells were confiscated in 1917 during World War I. Soviet bombardment in January 1945 caused damage during the Second World War, which was repaired by 1946. Between 1934 and 1936, and again in 2009, local authorities undertook comprehensive renovations.
The cathedral’s modern status dates to 1992, when Pope John Paul II established the Diocese of Gliwice and elevated the parish church to cathedral rank.
