History
The building was constructed in 1957 by the Irish National Association of Australasia to serve Sydney’s Irish community. Before becoming a dedicated entertainment venue, the space functioned as a cinema and hosted stage performances. The theatre opened under its current name in 2006, following the ground floor’s sale by the Irish National Association. The Gaelic Club, the original organisation’s social venue, continues to operate on the first floor.

The venue’s location near the site of the former Devonshire Street Cemetery—relocated during Central railway station’s construction in 1906—places it within a historically layered precinct.
