Once completed, it became the preferred residence of the Thai monarchy, housing Kings Chulalongkorn, Vajiravudh (Rama VI), Prajadhipok (Rama VII), Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) and Vajiralongkorn (Rama X)—though never designated as the official royal seat.
