One of two cathedrals in the Diocese of Down and Dromore, this Church of Ireland parish church stands on a site of Christian worship for over 1,400 years, from St Colman’s founding through medieval rebuilds to its present form dating largely from 1661.

History
Worship on this site dates to 510 AD, when St Colman of Dromore established a church on the banks of the River Lagan. The medieval building was rebuilt repeatedly during the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1609, letters patent elevated it to cathedral status. Rebel insurgents destroyed the structure in 1641 during the Irish Rebellion.
Bishop Jeremy Taylor of Down and Connor rebuilt the cathedral in 1661, establishing the core of the present building. Successive expansions followed, with the most significant addition completed in 1899. The organ, installed by Conacher and Co. of Huddersfield in 1871, was rebuilt by Trevor Crowe of Donadea, County Kildare in 2008–9.
