History
The site’s original building was constructed for merchant Mark Foy in 1908, designed by architect Arthur Anderson and known as Mark Foy’s Piazza Store. The building underwent major extensions and alterations between 1927 and 1930, executed by Spain and Cosh in collaboration with other architects. In 1991, the complex was renamed the Downing Centre to honour Reg Downing, a former NSW Attorney General and Minister for Justice.
