Chen Clan Ancestral Hall
A masterwork of Qing-era craftsmanship, this 19-building complex was erected by 72 Chen clans to prepare their sons for imperial examinations. Today it shelters one of China’s finest collections of folk art and woodcarvings.

History
Built in 1894 during the final decades of the Qing dynasty, the Chen Clan Academy served as accommodation and examination preparation for juniors of the 72 Chen family branches. It later transformed into the Chen Clan’s Industry College, then functioned as middle schools before its conversion to a folk art museum.
