History
Erected between 1851 and 1853, the church served the Free Presbyterian community in Old Quebec. In 1925, it became part of the United Church of Canada following that denomination’s formation. Six years later, in 1931, the congregation of the nearby Wesleyan Methodist Church merged with Chalmers United Church, adopting the combined name Chalmers-Wesley United Church.
The church’s musical life flourished under composer William Reed, who served as its organist from 1900 to 1913.
