History
The institute traces its origins to 1975, when the National Institute for Graphics was established through the merger of three important institutions: the National Chalcography (with pontifical heritage), and the National Prints and Drawings Department.
For decades, these collections remained scattered across separate locations. In 2008, a major milestone was achieved when the adjoining buildings of Palazzo Poli and the Chalcography were connected, allowing the distinct collections to be physically and administratively unified under one administration. The current name became official on 10 December 2014.
