Others argue for an 11th-century date, placing it among Navarre’s strategic infrastructure alongside the Puente La Reina—both built to link Nájera and Pamplona, the kingdom’s two principal cities.
Documentary evidence confirms the bridge had deteriorated beyond use by the mid-16th century, though the exact moment of its decline remains unclear. Its designation as Bien de Interés Cultural in 1983 recognized its historical value despite centuries of abandonment.

Originally 164 meters long and 5 meters wide, reaching 30 meters at its highest point, the bridge was constructed with seven semicircular arches. Today only two arches remain substantially intact, their excellent quarry stone still demonstrating the precision of medieval or Roman masonry. The remaining five arches survive only as fragments.
