Automobile Museum – Quattroruote Collection

A curated assembly of approximately thirty significant automobiles, from early twentieth-century Italian marques to engines and carriages, housed within the Domus editorial offices.

At a glance

Founded by Gianni Mazzocchi, editor and director of the automotive magazine Quattroruote, this museum presents vehicles selected to illustrate the technological and stylistic evolution of the automobile. The collection encompasses cars, vintage engines, nineteenth-century carriages, and historically important bicycles.

History

Mazzocchi, a dedicated enthusiast of vintage automobiles, established the museum as an extension of his editorial work at Quattroruote. His vision was to allow the vehicles themselves to narrate the story of automotive progress. The most representative and significant models form the core of the assembled collection, which now numbers approximately thirty automobiles.

What you see

The museum displays vehicles including an Isotta Fraschini and a Lambda first series, among other important models. Beyond automobiles, the collection houses a dedicated section of vintage engines, six ornate nineteenth-century carriages, and bicycles of considerable historical value. The entire collection occupies space within the historic Domus editorial headquarters.

Cultural significance

The museum documents Italy’s influential role in early automotive design and manufacturing. By juxtaposing vehicles across different eras, it illuminates the rapid evolution of motorization during the twentieth century. The inclusion of pre-automotive transport—carriages and bicycles—provides context for understanding the technological transition that reshaped mobility.
