History
Joan Abelló donated his personal collection to the city of Mollet del Vallès in 1996, establishing the Joan Abelló Foundation as an independent organization. The museum officially opened three years later, making the collection accessible to the public. The Foundation operates with support from the Mollet del Vallès Town Council.
What you see
The museum occupies a building completed in 1908, representing the Art Nouveau style that flourished across Catalonia at the turn of the twentieth century. Only the façade remains from the original structure, preserved as an architectural artifact while the interior has been adapted for contemporary museum use.
