Its long history begins with the construction begun in 1618 by Stefano Balbi and Gio Francesco Balbi I and continues with its purchase in 1677 by another very influential family: the Durazzo family.

That everyone knows it with the name of Palazzo Reale is due to the passage that in 1823 handed it over to the Savoy family.

Since 1919 it has belonged to the State and today it is a museum complex consisting of the historic residence, the garden and the Gallery of the Royal Palace, one of the most precious paintings in the city.
