L’ospedale della Consolazione nacque nel 1506 ed è stato uno storico ospedale romano annesso alla vicina chiesa. Vi lavorarono celebri medici e, nel 1591, anche S. Luigi Gonzaga che qui contrasse il morbo del tifo. Nel 1931 divenne l’Ospedale Littorio e nel 1936 fu chiuso per essere trasformato, nel 1943, nella sede del Comando dei Vigili Urbani.
