Recenti scavi e un completo riallestimento hanno portato nuova luce ad uno dei siti archeologici più antichi di Roma. Il complesso è composto da due nuclei distinti: il Carcer che risalirebbe al re Anco Marzio ed il sottostante Tullianum, dell’epoca di Servio Tullio. Il luogo è stato prigione di personaggi illustri come Giugurta, Vercingetorige e, secondo la tradizione cristiana, gli apostoli S. Pietro e S. Paolo.
