Anthony Minghella filmed the fictional resort of Mongibello in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) on the islands of Ischia and Procida in the Bay of Naples, their harbours and beaches standing in for an idyllic 1950s Italy. The Aragonese Castle and the island’s sun-bleached lanes set the seductive stage for the film’s slow-building menace.
