The Hidden Corners of Terasa

MiC Košice — Potulky mestom has been opening the city’s closed doors to visitors since 2004, every month, telling the stories behind buildings people usually pass without entering. The October programme leaves the old town altogether.

Terasa — officially Nové Mesto — was begun in 1962 to house the twenty-five thousand workers of the East Slovak Ironworks, and planned for sixty thousand people. This walk crosses it on foot: the parks, the transport solutions built into Trieda SNP, sculpture commissioned from well-known Slovak artists, blocks laid out so that ground-floor flats open straight onto grass, and the two buildings shaped as inverted pyramids — one of which the walk goes inside. Three interiors are entered in all.
