Palio di Siena — Provenzano (July 2026)

The July running of the Palio di Siena, held in honour of the Madonna of Provenzano. Ten of Siena’s seventeen contrade (city wards) compete in a bareback horse race of three laps around the earthen Piazza del Campo, preceded by a medieval pageant in historical costume. The race lasts approximately 90 seconds and is one of the most intense sporting events in Italy.
