Birth Anniversary: Secondo Campini — August 28, 1904
Secondo Campini (Bologna, 28 August 1904 – Milan, 7 February 1980), engineer and pioneer of jet propulsion, devised the «motorjet», a reaction engine in which the compressor is driven by a piston engine. His Caproni Campini N.1 flew in 1940 and was held to be the first jet aircraft in the world, until the secret flight of the German Heinkel He 178, a year earlier, came to light.
