Birth Anniversary: Italo Balbo — June 6, 1896
Italo Balbo (Ferrara, 6 June 1896 – Tobruk, 28 June 1940), a leading Fascist and Minister of Aeronautics, organised and led the great transatlantic air cruises of 1930–31 and 1933, which took formations of Italian flying boats as far as Brazil and Chicago. He died in Libya, where he was governor, shot down in error by Italian anti-aircraft fire. Anniversary documented by Cultural Heritage Online.
