Birth Anniversary: Alessandro Marchetti — June 16, 1884
Alessandro Marchetti (Cori, 16 June 1884 – Sesto Calende, 5 December 1966), engineer and designer, was the principal draughtsman of SIAI Savoia-Marchetti. The S.55 flying boats of Balbo’s Atlantic cruises are his, and so is the three-engined S.M.79 «Sparviero», nicknamed «the damned hunchback», among the best known Italian aircraft of the Second World War.
