Death Anniversary: Italo Balbo — June 28, 1940
Italo Balbo (Ferrara, 6 June 1896 – Tobruk, 28 June 1940) died in Libya, where he was governor-general, when his aircraft was shot down in error by Italian anti-aircraft fire. As Minister of Aeronautics he had tied his name to the transatlantic flying-boat cruises of 1930–31 and 1933. Anniversary documented by Cultural Heritage Online.
