Around the World in Jewellery: 500 pieces from Qatar’s collections at M7 Doha, 27 October to 26 December 2026
Jewellery is the part of material heritage that was made to be worn, inherited and kept, which is why museum collections of it tend to be both vast and rarely shown whole. From 27 October to 26 December 2026 M7, the design and fashion hub of Qatar Museums in Msheireb Downtown Doha, shows Around the World in Jewellery, described by Qatar Museums as the largest presentation of jewellery ever drawn from its collections.
More than 500 pieces are on view — jewels, artworks, photographs and sculptures, some shown publicly for the first time — from the National Collection of Qatar, the National Museum of Qatar, the Museum of Islamic Art and the future Lusail Museum, alongside a selection from the Van Cleef & Arpels patrimonial collection. Among them is the Patiala Sarpech, a jewelled and enamelled turban ornament of the Mughal period, around 1880, from northern India, now in the Museum of Islamic Art.
The exhibition is curated by Inezita Gay-Eckel and Paul Paradis, art historians and lecturers at L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts, and designed by the artist and designer Johanna Grawunder. It is arranged in seven themes — Sea & Ocean, Nature, Cosmos, Body Adornment, Status, Customs & Ceremonies, and Protection — which ask why people adorn themselves and what the objects say about those who made, wore, exchanged, inherited and preserved them. A Children’s Piazza for visitors aged four to ten runs through the centre of the show, the first area at M7 built for children.
