Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges (2008) is a black-comic love letter to the medieval Flemish city, shot among the canals, the Markt and the great Belfry beside which two hired killers are sent to hide. The film turns the perfectly preserved old town — a UNESCO World Heritage site — into both purgatory and postcard.
