George R. Mann Dies (1939)

George R. Mann

On 20 March 1939 George R. Mann died. For three decades the dominant architect in Arkansas, he left the State Capitol in Little Rock as his monument, alongside the banks, offices and downtown commercial buildings — among them the 1928 Wallace Building — that gave the capital its early-century skyline. His practice bridged the Beaux-Arts civic tradition and the first Art Deco of the 1920s.
