George C. Nimmons Dies (1947)

On 17 June 1947 George C. Nimmons died in Chicago. His plants and department stores for Sears, Roebuck and Company shaped the look of American commercial building in the 1920s and 1930s. The 1928 Louisville store — described as the only major Art Deco commercial building in the city — survives as one of the most complete examples of his retail work, its clean massing and Deco detailing intact on West Broadway.
