The feast of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, the Carmelite nun known as the Little Flower, falls on 1 October. The Basilica of Sainte-Thérèse rose in Lisieux after her death in 1897, built to receive the pilgrims her short life and simple writings kept drawing to the Normandy town. She never travelled beyond her convent; the basilica became the journey her readers made instead.
