The feast of Saint Francis of Paola, founder of the Minim friars and patron of sailors and of Calabria, falls on 2 April. The Royal Pontifical Basilica raised in his name looks out over the Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples, built through the first half of the nineteenth century in a curved colonnade meant to answer the palace across the square. A hermit from a small Calabrian town ended up with one of Naples’s grandest addresses.
