Feast of Saint Anthony of Padua — June 13

The feast of Saint Anthony of Padua falls on 13 June, the day he died in 1231 at only thirty-five. Construction of the basilica that holds his tomb began within a few years of his death and kept growing through the fourteenth century, domes added onto domes until the building looked more like Byzantium than Padua. Around five million pilgrims a year still come to the tomb of a preacher who spent barely a year in the city that never let him go.
