Death Anniversary: Michele Mascitti — April 19, 1760
He died in Paris on 19 April 1760 at the venerable age of ninety-six, having lived in the French capital since 1704 under the patronage of the Duke of Orléans. Naturalised French in 1739, he published nine collections of violin sonatas that introduced Corelli’s Italian instrumental style to Parisian salons and concert societies.
A note on this date. The exact day of birth is not recorded in surviving parish registers of Villa Santa Maria (only the year c. 1664 is documented); we omit the birth anniversary and celebrate his death anniversary on 19 April. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.
