Death Anniversary: Louis-Gabriel Guillemain — October 1, 1770
He died tragically at Chaville outside Paris on 1 October 1770 from multiple self-inflicted wounds in a fit of melancholy. One of the highest-paid violinists in France, his Sonates en quatuors, op. 12, of 1743 are pioneering masterworks of pure chamber conversation anticipating the classical string quartet.
