Death Anniversary: Ignaz Holzbauer — April 7, 1783
He died in Mannheim on 7 April 1783. As court Kapellmeister to Elector Carl Theodor from 1753, he helped build the legendary Mannheim court orchestra; his 1777 opera Günther von Schwarzburg was enthusiastically praised by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as a triumph of German opera.
