Death Anniversary: Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello — October 4, 1758

04 October 2027
Stuttgart

He died in Stuttgart on 4 October 1758, having served as Oberkapellmeister of the Württemberg ducal court for over three decades after arriving in Germany in 1715. His eighteen suites for the gallichon (calichon), together with his concerti e sinfonie op. 1, established him as a premier instrumental figure in the transmission of Italian concerto style to southern Germany.

A note on this date. The exact day of birth is not preserved in Bolognese baptismal archives (c. 1690); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 4 October. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.

Dates verified on Treccani, DBI, vol. 14 (1972), voce "BRESCIANELLO, Giuseppe Antonio" (https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/giuseppe-antonio-brescianello_(Dizionario-Biografico)/); Rudolf Krauss, Das Stuttgarter Hoftheater von den ältesten Zeiten bis zur Gegenwart, Metzler, Stuttgart, 1908, p. 42.
