Death Anniversary: Giovanni Alberto Ristori — February 7, 1753

He died in Dresden on 7 February 1753, where he had been appointed Hoforganist and Vizekapellmeister under Johann Adolf Hasse at the Saxon electoral court. He composed the pioneering comic opera Calandro in 1726—later performed in Moscow as the first Italian opera staged in Russia—and produced brilliant sacred masses and cantatas.

A note on this date. The exact day of birth is unrecorded in seventeenth-century Bolognese archives (c. 1692); we celebrate his verified death anniversary on 7 February. We publish it with the warning rather than leave the page out, and if you can point us to a register or an archive that carries it we will confirm or correct it.

Dates verified on Treccani, DBI, vol. 87 (2016), voce "RISTORI, Giovanni Alberto" (https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/giovanni-alberto-ristori_(Dizionario-Biografico)/); Sächsische Biografie (https://saebi.isgv.de/biografie/Giovanni_Alberto_Ristori_(1692-1753)).
