Death Anniversary: Carl Linnaeus — January 10, 1778
10 January 2027
Carl Linnaeus died on 10 January 1778 and was buried in Uppsala Cathedral, a short walk from the university where he had taught for decades. The system he built — two Latin names for every living thing — is still the working grammar of biology. His family grave lies just inside the cathedral, and a memorial chapel keeps the naturalist among the kings and archbishops of Sweden’s greatest church.
