Death Anniversary: Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi — June 1945

Alfredo Gauro Ambrosi died in Verona in June 1945, at 44, a few weeks after the end of the war. He had joined Futurism in 1931 and promoted the Boccioni group in Verona; his best-known painting is the Aeroritratto di Mussolini aviatore of 1930, and in 1933 he painted Volo su Vienna, which Marinetti called the masterpiece of documentary aeropainting. During the war the air ministry sent him to record the missions of the Italian air force, which he flew on; those canvases are the last part of his work.
