Colonia Bolognese Opens at Miramare — 1932

On 1 August 1932 the Colonia Marina Bolognese opened on the shore at Miramare di Rimini. Promoted by the Fascist federation of Bologna and designed by the engineer Ildebrando Tabarroni, its four linked brick buildings could send up to 1,200 children of the Bologna province to the sea each summer. One of the largest of the Adriatic colonie marine, it still stands between Rimini and Riccione, a monument to a vanished season of seaside institutions.
