Christian Dell: From the Silver Jug to Gold Lane (sam – Stadtmuseum am Markt, Wiesbaden)

The sam – Stadtmuseum am Markt in Wiesbaden dedicates a special exhibition to Christian Dell (1893–1974), one of the formative German designers of the twentieth century. The show traces the full arc of his work — from early silver objects through experimental plastic pieces to the celebrated lamps, produced at scale, that stand today in design museums around the world.

The exhibition is presented as part of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, with a programme of guided tours, lectures, open workshops and discussions around design, materials and creative processes.

In the programme

On Tuesday 29 September 2026 at 18:00 the museum adds a lecture that goes behind the designer: Christian Dell in the World of the Hanau Academy of Art, given by Beate Alice Hofmann, Head of Collections and Research at the Hanau Municipal Museums. It follows Dell back to the Hanau Academy of Drawing, founded in 1772, where he trained before the Bauhaus metal workshop — the schooling that shaped everything that came after. Admission is free, and the lecture is held at WerkRaum Wiesbaden, Langgasse 5–9, not at the museum itself.

Cultural Heritage Online lists this exhibition for readers planning a trip to Wiesbaden; admission is handled directly by the museum.
