In Casino Royale (2006), a wounded James Bond convalesces at a lakeside clinic that is in reality the Villa del Balbianello, the eighteenth-century villa on a wooded promontory of Lake Como. Its terraced loggia and gardens — also seen in Star Wars: Episode II — give the film its moment of calm before the final act, heritage architecture standing in for luxury and recovery.
