Born near Venice at Marsango on 4 February 1676 and baptised in the parish of Campo San Martino. He established his reputation as a virtuoso violinist and composer in Venice and Palermo before entering the service of the Spanish viceroy, who brought him to Madrid in 1720 as royal chamber musician and music master to the Infante Luis.
