Birth Anniversary: Friedrich Schiller — November 10, 1759

Friedrich Schiller, poet and playwright, was born in Marbach am Neckar on 10 November 1759. The small Swabian town he left as a young man now holds the Deutsches Literaturarchiv Marbach, one of the two or three most important archives of German literature in the world, standing beside the Schiller-Nationalmuseum built in his memory. Few writers gave a whole discipline, German-language literary scholarship, a permanent address in their own birthplace.
