Ezra Pound was born on 30 October 1885 in Idaho. In 1924 he settled in Rapallo, on the Ligurian coast, and stayed for two decades — the years in which most of the Cantos took shape, and in which the small resort town became, for a while, a stopping point for the writers and musicians who came to see him. Rapallo never asked for the role; Pound gave it one anyway.
