Birth Anniversary: Benvenuto Cellini — November 3, 1500

Benvenuto Cellini, goldsmith and sculptor, was born in Florence on 3 November 1500. The Bargello, Florence’s old fortress-museum, keeps the workshop side of his story: the wax and bronze models he made for the head of Medusa before casting his bronze Perseus, and his bronze bust of Cosimo I de’ Medici. The finished Perseus itself stands outdoors in the Loggia dei Lanzi — the Bargello is where you see him think.
